Dry conditions not stopping planting
If wind were rain
there’d be no drought and Lake Sakakawea would be full to
the brim. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. This past week
rain was forecast for parched north central and western
North Dakota. But instead of moisture, the wind came and
continued through the weekend. Southwest North Dakota
received some moisture this past Thursday. One example is
Hettinger where approximately .88 fell. But for farmers in
McLean County, nary a sniff. Tuesday, God answered prayer as
showers moved through the county. But the precipitation is
only a drop in the bucket that will turn frowns into smiles.
Dry conditions persist.
Sakakawea Gift Gallery has
successful history
Those who hear that Garrison’s Sakakawea Gift Gallery will
be closing might think it is a sign of failure. Nothing
could be further from the truth. According to co-manager
Brenda Gienger, the business has endured, even thrived for a
much longer time than its founders envisioned. She said,
“It’s been very successful. We accomplished what we set out
to do.” Then, reflecting on its history of nearly 17 years,
Brenda said, “I never imagined it would continue like this.”
The idea for a seasonal craft outlet originated with Don
Gackle, founder of BHG, Inc.
Proposal keeps Troop in Class A
football
A proposal on the table by the North Dakota high School
Activities Association could see the Garrison-Max Troopers
remain in Class A 11-man football and travel to the
northwest for the next two years, beginning in 2009-10. The
football plan, announced this past Friday, would see the
Troopers compete in what would be Region 3 against the likes
of Harvey, Velva, Des-Lacs-Burlington, Berthold-Our
Redeemers-North Shore-Plaza, New Town, Stanley and Tioga.
Except for Berthold-Our Redeemers-NSP, all are teams the
Troopers have competed against in Region play over the
years.
