Minot company earns
city paving bid
The streets of Center will soon be paved, since the bid for the
Hazel Minor addition was received and awarded at the Monday
Center City Council meeting. Four bids were received that were
examined by City Engineer Daren Peterka. The bids and their
total costs were as follows: Border States Paving, $301,100,
Fargo; Keller Paving and Landscaping, $289,750.50, Minot;
Bechtold Paving, $222,666.45, Minot; and Bituminous Paving,
$245,725.80, Ortonville, Minn. “You had good timing on getting
bids on that,” Peterka said to the council. The bid was awarded
to Bechtold Paving unanimously by the council. About $85,000
will remain from the amount that was set aside for the paving of
the streets in the new addition. The annual Old Settlers Days is
quickly approaching the city, making preparations for the event
running into their deadlines. Like last year beer gardens will
be held for all three bars in Center, Lonewolf Saloon, Wolfie’s
Bar and Der Imbiss Bar and Grill. But there will be some
stipulations concerning where the gardens are located.
Ballots set for county, city
elections
The race is on and Oliver County and city of Center voters will
have several decisions to make when they go to the polls June
10. In the city, voters will need to choose a mayor and two
council members. All are four-year terms. Incumbent Mayor
Richard Zarr is seeking re-election while being challenged by
current City Councilman Melvin Heilman. City Council incumbent
Kevin Mosbrucker will be seeking re-election to a four-year term
while three new candidates have stepped forward: Sandra Olin,
Aaron Rudningen and Rodney Layton. Also in the city, seven
candidates will race to fill four seats on the Center Park
Board. Vying for re-election to the park board are incumbents JD
Hanson and Emanuel Schutt. Also seeking a seat are Jennifer
Layton, Keith Vitek, Jim Wahlman, Mark Schutt and Jen Haag.
Wildcats on track for regionals
The Center-Stanton track teams have been steadily improving this
season. As the weather turned nicer this past week, both the
boys and the girls hit two meets with great results. At the
Badlands Conference Meet in Dickinson April 29, the Wildcat boys
didn’t climb very high in the team standings but several
individuals placed for a good turnout. John Schwab led the way
with a seventh place finish in the 400-meter dash in 56.64
seconds. The 400-relay team sliced seconds off their time,
finishing in sixth place at 49.44. Wendlin Berger had the first
of his pair of placings in the 110 hurdles, knotting the No. 5
spot at 17.74. He also earned sixth place in the high jump. |
